Version 2.3.9 has now been released. This version provides additional functionality including:

• Improvements to the efficiency of data-retrieval,
• Further search options for Purchase Order, Certificate Reference, Date Received and Sample ID,
• Additional information in the 'Samples' and 'Tests' tabs,
• Increased Maintenance options, including Firm contact details, and user customisation of Sample Replication,
• Microsoft Word Reporting support; users can now create their own reports using merging facilities,

LabCom Versions 2.2.1 and later require the Crystal Reports engine to be installed for reports. Download Crystal Reports 2005. This version has some known issues but much faster operation, it also adds some additional sample reception and test detail elements. It is also dependent on Windows .Net 2 being installed this can be installed by Windows automatic updates or can be found at the following connection. Microsot .net 2.0 download Contact support for details further notes will be added to full release.

Real users should use the usernames or passwords that they have been given or apply to village software for additional users to be set up.

Version 1
Some existing clients are on version 1 of the software. A data change needs to be co-ordinated between lab and client when upgrading to version 2. You will be contacted to discuss this.

User Setup

Support at Village Software will need to establish an account username and password to allow access to a set of data specific to your organisation.

Installation Brief Instruction

LabCom is a laboratory samples communication package designed for testing labs. A similar piece of software is used by the laboratory and the client sending samples.

Before installing the software the Windows computer (98 onwards) needs to have the .NET prerequisites installed. These may already have been installed by the Windows upgrade cycle. Otherwise please download and run dotnetfx.

Version 2.1.5 and later need to install version 2 of dot net dotnet2

Windows 98 First Edition
Users of Windows 98 first edition need to install the Windows MDAC version 2.6 or later. (This might also be necessary on some editions of Windows 2000) This can be downloaded from the Microsoft site. MDAC 2.8.

Firewall
LabCom accesses data through SQL Server. A suitable opening needs to be made in the corporate firewall. This is an outgoing connection from your site so often it isn't a problem, however on some occasions IT staff need to ensure a suitable security access is made. Hence they may need the following details.

SQL Server uses port 1433. Microsoft have an article in their knowledge base TCP Ports Needed for Communication to SQL Server Through a Firewall.
